RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Women's Basketball team is partnering with the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Richmond's East End as part of its social justice initiative.

To begin the partnership, the team has donated basketballs, uniforms and water bottles in addition to scheduling a zoom session with the club. The team will continue to volunteer time with the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club and promote teamwork, physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club has been serving Richmond's East End for more than 100 years.

The team chose this partnership in order make a difference with local youth in Richmond. The team is participating in Athletes Driving Change, an organization led by minority female basketball student-athletes in the Atlantic 10.

The organization aspires to implement action plans of education and service off the basketball court and awareness efforts on the basketball court to continue to reach as many as possible. It's mission is to make everlasting change towards equality and eliminating social injustices towards people of color.
