RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball Head Coach
Beth O'Boyle has announced the signing of
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey and
Mary-Anna Asare to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
Lewis-Eutsey signs from Life Center Academy (N.J.) and played AAU for Books and Basketball Academy. Asare signs from J. Addison School (Markham, Canada) and played for Canada Elite/A-Game and Advantage Titans.
"This recruiting class marks another step in our program. Timaya and Mary-Anna both fit perfectly into our culture on and off the court. They are both incredibly gifted student-athletes and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome them to Ram Nation," O'Boyle said.
Lewis-Eutsey, who also played at Landsdale Catholic, was a PA Sportswriters' All-State Class 4A selection in addition to being named to the Philadelphia Catholic League First Team. She reached 1,000 career points during the 2019-20 season, becoming the fastest player in school history to do so.
"Timaya is a fierce competitor who plays with an aggressive defensive mindset and is an extremely versatile scorer. She fits well into our up-tempo style of play with her ability to rebound and make plays in transition. Her strength is also a major asset in being able to get to the rim and to the foul line," O'Boyle said.
Lewis-Eutsey was named the George W. Snear Holiday Tournament MVP and has been a Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery All-Area selection. She plans on majoring in either science or business.
"For me, choosing the right university and the right fit was crucial. At VCU, I found a competitive environment where I can hone my craft and take my not only my skill, but my life to the next level. I have the confidence and support of the coaching staff and team. I will be around genuine people who will push me, want to win and believe I can help them do that," Lewis-Eutsey said.
Asare is a Canadian youth international who was selected to participate in the U19 World Championship. She has also been selected for Team Canada at various levels in their Age Group Assessment Camps.
"Mary brings a high level of energy with a great basketball IQ and an impressive skill set. She can score at the rim, make deep 3-pointers, and create offense from making excellent defensive reads," O'Boyle said.
Asare was named a Juel Prep First Team All-Star in both 2019 and 2018. She is planning to major in criminology and psychology.
"I chose VCU because it made me feel at home. As soon as I got to Richmond, the energy I received from the players and coaches was amazing and I knew I wanted to be part of this program. I loved how excited the coaching staff was about me and the resources VCU has to offer and develop me as a player and as a person. Between the basketball program, culture, and amazing academic support, VCU felt like a perfect fit," Asare said.
