The short story: Senior Kristian Tannum Donaldson fired a second-round 69 and contended until the end on the way to a third-place effort at the Carolina Collegiate Invitational this week.
 
FIRST TEE

• Tannum Donaldson shot a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round to climb four spots in the standings. At one point Tuesday he birdied four straight holes to erase a 1-over front nine and claim a share of the lead
• Freshman Charlie Kennedy earned a share of 13^th on the strength of a 70-72-72 effort
• VCU shot a combined 9-over (873) on the way to a sixth-place finish. High Point (-19) captured the team title, followed by Florida Gulf Coast (-17), UCF (-14), Jacksonville (-5) and UConn (+5)
• Sophomore Mikkel Antonsen (75-70-74) placed 33^rd for the Rams, while junior Clifford Foster (75-75-80) was 62^nd
