The Short Story: VCU jumped out to a 2-0 lead just two minutes into the contest but the Spiders outscored VCU 11-2 over the next 27 minutes to take control of the game. The Rams were unable to get closer than eight goals for the remainder of the game. The loss concluded their second season as a program. VCU finished tied for sixth in the final Atlantic 10 standings after being chosen 10th in the preseason. The Rams more than doubled their win total overall and in conference play from the program's first season.

• Richmond scored two goals to tie the game 2-2 with 21:17 left in the first stanza.
• The Rams retook the lead at 3-2 on another Hyatt goal at the 20:19 mark.
• The Spiders then scored 12 unanswered goals to take a 12-3 with 5:28 left in the half.
• VCU would trail Richmond 13-4 at halftime.
• The two teams traded a goal to start the second half before Richmond expanded its lead to 18-5 with four consecutive goals.
• The Rams got goals from Gordon and Emond to finish the contest.
