The Short Story: Tied 6-6 at halftime, the Rams scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half to build a 13-7 lead with 19:11 remaining. VCU outscored the Flames 15-6 in the second half for the victory. The 21 goals tied a program-high and marked the third time as a program VCU has scored 21 goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Black and Gold got off to a quick start by scoring the games first four goals just over nine minutes into the game.
  • Liberty responded by scoring six of the next eight goals, including one with just 1:26 left before halftime to tie the game 6-6 at the break.
  • McTavish opened the scoring 1:08 into the second half as the Rams again started a half on a 4-0 run.
  • Liberty's Brianna McCaffrey scored unassisted to make it 10-7 but couldn't stop VCU's 7-1 run to open the half as VCU held a 13-7 lead.
  • That lead would grow to as large as 17-9 and the Flames would get no closer than 18-11 with 6:38 left in regulation.
