The short story: Sky Hyatt registered her second straight hat trick, but it wasn't enough for VCU to slow down Saint Joseph's Friday at rainy Cary Street Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks were clinical in the first half, using 21 shots to build a 7-0 lead at the break. Saint Joseph's leading scorer Nora McCallion scored the game's first four goals.
- Hyatt got the Rams on the board just 19 seconds in the second half when she converted on a free-position shot. Three minutes later she closed VCU within 9-2 with an unassisted score, but the Rams could draw no closer.
- The Rams added back-to-back scores from Hyatt and Molly Barcikowski late in the half.
- Saint Joseph's controlled play from the outset and outshot the Rams 36-18.
OFF THE DRAW
- Hyatt, who leads the Rams with 37 goals this season, has recorded six hat tricks this season, including five in her past six games.
- Saint Joseph's scooped up 19 ground balls, compared to VCU's 10. The Hawks committed 15 turnovers, while the Rams were credited with 21 miscues in the game.
- Ria Peralta made six saves in goal for the Rams.
