The short story: VCU did not go quietly. The Rams rallied late to push George Washington to the limit, but the Colonials held off the Black and Gold to capture the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Championship Sunday in Charlottesville.
FIRST SERVE
- VCU dropped the doubles point and eventually found itself in a 3-1 hole before staging a dramatic comeback.
- Freshman Vitor Lima kept the Rams alive on the No. 2 court with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 come-from-behind win over Danil Zelenkov.
- Moments later, junior Catalin Fifea knocked off Chris Fletcher on the No. 4 6-2, 7-6 (6) to even the match at 3-all.
- But George Washington's Cahit Kapukiran overcame an early deficit and clinched the match for the Colonials with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Arvid Noren on the No. 5 court.
