The Short Story: VCU women's hoops upset the Atlantic 10 two seed St. Bonaventure 52-47 at home on Wednesday night. With the win, the Rams are back to .500 in the A-10 and have now held an opponent below 50 points in 11 games this season.
OPENING TIP
- Adaeze Alaeze and Isis Thorpe led paced the Rams with 12 and 11 points respectively.
- Jessica Ogunnorin and Keira Robinson just missed double-doubles. Each put up nine points with Ogunnorin grabbing a team-high 11 boards and Robinson reeling in eight.
- Ashley Pegram and Chadarryl Clay chipped in four points each. Clay dished out two assists, while Pegram swatted a block and swiped a steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing four points at halftime, the Rams were able to limit the Bonnies to just eight points in the third quarter to take a one-point lead.
- VCU pulled ahead early in the fourth, but the Bonnies managed to tie the game twice in the first four minutes of the quarter.
- Just under five minutes left in the game, Alaeze drove for a layup and a two-point advantage.
- Alaeze followed with a jumper and Ogunnorin answered with one of her own to build a six-point lead with less than two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the game.
- The Bonnies made it interesting, pulling within three late, but the Rams refused to relent, sealing the victory at the foul line.
