The Short Story: Trailing 28-21 with 4:52 left before halftime, VCU used a 17-0 run spanning across halftime to take a 38-28 lead with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter. UNCG would get no closer than six points for the remainder of the contest.

• Isis Thorpe set a new school record for 3-pointers made in a career with 197. She broke the previous mark set by Anna Pavlikhina (1990-93) a 3-pointer with 4:54 remaining in the game to push VCU's lead to 54-44.
• Keira Robinson had a team-high 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds, three assists and no turnovers.
• VCU had a 33-28 rebounding edge over UNCG and outscored the Spartans 25-13 in points off turnovers.
• The Rams forced 23 UNCG turnovers and limited the Spartans to 28.6 percent shooting from three.
• The Rams shot 43.4 percent from the field and had 17 assists on 23 field goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• VCU fell behind early as UNCG opened the game with a 16-8 lead with 4:10 left in the first quarter.
• The Rams were able to close the deficit to 19-14 thanks to a Bria Gibson layup with just seven seconds left before the end of the quarter.
• VCU tied the game 20-20 with 6:42 left before halftime after outscoring the Spartans 12-4 since the 4:10 mark in the first quarter.
• The Spartans pulled away again briefly, this time on a quick 8-1 run to take a 28-21 lead with 4:52 remaining in the second quarter.
• The Rams charged back to take the lead with an 17-0 run that started with Robinson hit a 3-pointer followed by two made free throws. Ashlee Mitchell's layup gave VCU a 29-28 lead with 1:10 remaining before halftime.
• The Rams continued that run through halftime and led 38-28 with 8:05 left in the third quarter.
• UNCG got as close as six points on two different occasions in the second half but VCU was able to stave off any comeback.
