HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a layup from Robinson, a free throw from Sandra Skinner followed by a jumper.
• Up 11-8 with 58 seconds remaining in the quarter, VCU went on a 6-0 run sparked by a Thorpe layup and she capped it off with a 3-pointer with just four seconds left in the quarter. VCU held a 17-8 lead at the end of the first stanza.
• Coppin State cut VCU's lead to just 19-12 with 8:56 left in the second quarter but that was as close as the Eagles got for the remainder of the contest.
• The Rams went on a quick 8-0 run spanning 2:36 that was capped by a Bria Gibson layup and gave VCU a 29-12 lead with 6:12 before halftime.
• The Eagles made a run to cut the Rams' lead to 33-22 before back-to-back layups from Brelove and Robinson pushed the lead to 15 points.
• VCU went into the locker room at halftime with a 37-23 lead.
