HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a game of runs in the early going. VCU staked itself to a 15-4 lead in the opening minutes, but the Rams then endured a seven-minute scoring drought as Iona answered with a 12-0 burst.
- A short time later, Robinson and senior Jessica Ogunnorin contributed a pair of buckets each to a 12-0 VCU run that snapped a 19-all tie and gave the Rams a 31-19 advantage with 2:41 left.
- Iona scored the first seven points after the break, including back-to-back layups by Marina Lizarazu, to knot the game at 32-all. But VCU responded with what was effectively the knockout punch. Alaeze sparked an 11-1 blitz with four free throws and a jumper to push VCU in front for good at 43-33 with 5:25 left. The Gaels would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
