RAMS CRUISE TO 64-43 WIN OVER UTPA SUNDAY

  • Short Story: A strong second half led the Rams to a 64-43 win over UT-Pan American on Sunday.  The win extends VCU's home winning streak to nine and was the 100th career win for head coach Beth O'Boyle. Isis Thorpe led the Rams with 14 points and eight rebounds.   

How It Happened

  • Both teams exchanged baskets early, but the Rams were able to string together a run and take a six-point lead.
  • The Broncs fought to cut the deficit and took a one-point advantage behind a layup and a free throw from Cha'zaye Wright.  VCU responded with a 7-0 run, regaining their lead to take a 29-24 advantage at the break.
  • A layup by Isis Thorpe with 12:34 remaining capped off a 15-0 VCU run that gave the Rams a 46-28 advantage.
  • VCU held UTPA to 19 points in the second half, including one field goal in the final eight minutes.

  • Thorpe's eight rebounds is a new career high for the sophomore. She passed her previous mark of seven, which she set on Thursday in the teams win over High Point.
  • Sophomore Brittani Burgess scored a career-best five points.
  • The Rams extend their home winning streak to nine, which is tied for 22nd in the country.
  • VCU has outscored its opponents by an average of 15 points in the second half over the last two games.
  • VCU outrebounded UT-Pan American by 20, the largest margin of rebounding this season for the Rams.
