TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore Kelsey
Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) supplied the offense while
junior Erin
Jablonski (Charlottesville, Va.) provided the
defensive equivalent to lead a 2-0 Virginia Commonwealth University
victory over Towson Sunday at Johnny Unitas Stadium
VCU has won four straight overall to improve to 7-3, its best
10-game start since opening 8-2 in 2004. The Rams also improved to
2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association for the first time since
joining the league in 1991.
"This kind of proves that everything we're doing the last few
years has been for the best," VCU Head Coach Kelly
McQuade said. "We're getting a newfound rejuvenation with
these last couple of wins, which only helps our confidence."
With Towson's football Field Turf surface slowing play, the Rams
were forced to adjust their style of attack. VCU was outshot, 11-8,
but made the most of its opportunities.

Scherrer, who provided a game-winning goal in double overtime
Friday at Delaware, blasted her fifth and sixth scores of the
season in the 39
th and 59
th minutes,
respectively.
That was all the cushion Jablonski would need, as the junior
keeper handled six saves on the way to her second shutout.
"I told them that this was a game that we were going to have to
find a way to win this game," McQuade said. "Kelsey [Scherrer] was
on fire played out of her mind. She played very well off the ball
and generated a lot of attack. I give the girls a ton of credit for
overcoming this different environment to get the win."
The road won't get any easier for VCU. The Rams return to Cary
Street Field on Friday, Oct. 1 for a showdown with 16th-ranked
Drexel at 6 p.m. The Dragons were picked first in the CAA Preseason
Coaches Poll.
