The Short Story: VCU and Northwestern battled back-and-forth but two second quarter goals proved the difference in the season opener for both teams.        

QUICK FACTS:

• Josefina Ventimiglia had two shots, both on goal
• Ana Afosno also recorded two shots
• Emma Clements made three saves in goal
• Northwestern outshot VCU 8-4 overall and 5-2 in shots on goal
• The Wildcats held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team recording a shot
• The Wildcats scored first in the 17^th minute as Kokinis got a pass and scored from close range
• Northwestern doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 20^th minute  off a penalty corner
• VCU had two shot attempts in the 27^th minute off a corner, one saved and one blocked and trailed 2-0 at the half
• The Rams were unable to convert in the second half as Ventimiglia had another shot on goal in the 4^th quarter saved in the 51^st minute
