The Short Story: VCU and Kent State went back-and-forth in a scoreless game until Carley Deaver won it for the Rams in overtime.

QUICK FACTS:

• Deaver scored the goal on her lone shot attempt on the afternoon. It marked the fifth goal of her career and her first game-winning goal
• Julia Spohr recorded an assist on Deaver's goal, the first of the freshman's collegiate career
• Emma Clements made five saves in goal and earned the shutout
• Josefina Ventimiglia had a team-high four shot attempts while Ana Afonso had three
• Kent State outshot VCU 6-4 in shots on goal and 16-11 overall

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Clements made three of her five saves in the first quarter as the teams were tied 0-0 after the first 15 minutes
• The Rams outshot the Golden Flashes 6-2 in the second quarter but the teams remained deadlocked at halftime
• The third quarter was marked by a weather delay as the Golden Flashes forced Clements to make two more saves
• VCU's defense didn't allow Kent State to record a shot on goal in the fourth quarter or in overtime before Deaver was able to score the game-winning goal in the 69th minute
