VCU REMAINS UNBEATEN IN CAA PLAY WITH 76-60 VICTORY AT GEORGIA STAT

ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior guard D'Andra Moss registered a game-high 27 points and senior guard Kita Waller (right) scored 19 points to help Virginia Commonwealth University remain unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 76-60 victory against Georgia State Thursday at the GSU Sports Arena.

VCU picks up its season-high sixth straight win and improves to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in CAA play, while Georgia State dropped its third in a row to fall 10-5, 1-3 in conference action.

Sophomore guard Jylisa Williams paced Georgia State with 20 points.  Senior forward Danyiell McKeller contributed 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while senior forward Shay Rawls added 12 points and six boards for the Panthers.

VCU jumped out to a 7-2 lead before Georgia State used a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 14-9 advantage, its largest of the half, on a jumper by McKeller. 

Sophomore guard Jennifer Lane cut the Panthers' lead to 14-12 on a 3-pointer at the 10:44 mark.  VCU forced a Georgia State turnover on the ensuing possession and Waller tied the game at 14-14 on a jumper with 10:04 remaining before the break.

VCU regained the lead at 17-15 when Waller converted the traditional three-point play with 9:08 showing.  The Rams capped off a 13-1 run on a Moss 3-pointer and took a 22-15 advantage with 7:31 to go.

The Black & Gold continued to pressure the Panthers and went on top 30-20 on a trey by junior guard Ebony Patterson at the 4:28 mark in the opening period.  Patterson's basket marked a string of eight consecutive field goals made by the Rams.

VCU held a 13-point lead on two occasions the remainder of the half and took a 37-26 advantage into the locker room.

Georgia State pulled within 45-39 with 13:32 remaining but VCU answered with an 11-1 run over the next five minutes and pulled ahead 56-41 on a trey by Waller.

The Panthers made another push late in the second half and got within 68-60 with 1:20 to go but VCU scored the final eight points of the game to seal the victory.

Sophomore forward Courtney Hurt added eight points, four rebounds and a game-high four steals for VCU.  Lane finished with seven points and a team-high five rebounds and Patterson chipped in seven points and five assists for the Rams.

VCU shot 52 percent (26-of-50) field and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from 3-point range, while Georgia State matched the Rams shooting effort, hitting 53 percent (24-of-45) of its attempts.

The Black & Gold forced 22 Georgia State turnovers and scored 30 points off miscues for the third time in the last four games.

The Rams were without the services of senior guard La'Tavia Rorie following her season-ending knee injury in VCU's victory Sunday against Towson. Rorie was unable to make the trip but her presence was still felt as her jersey (left) occupied a spot on the bench.

VCU returns to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at William & Mary.
