Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior D'Andra Moss
(Atlanta, Ga.) scored a career-high 33 points to spark
Virginia Commonwealth University to a 75-68, double-overtime
victory over Morgan State in the championship game of the Anaconda
Sports "The Rock" SHU Classic at Walsh Gymnasium.
The Rams improved to 3-0 with the victory, while
Morgan State fell to 2-2.
Moss scored eight points in the second overtime
period alone. In addition, she hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left
in the first overtime period to force the second OT. Moss also had
10 rebounds and hit 3-of-6 3-pointers.
The Rams also received 12 points and eight
rebounds from sophomore Courtney Hurt (Conyers,
Ga.), as well as 11 points and five boards by senior
La'Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C.).
For the third straight game, the Rams rode
defense and rebounding to victory. VCU outrebounded the Bears,
54-45, and limited Morgan State to 31 percent shooting for the
game.
Corin Adams led the Bears with 22 points and
seven rebounds.
The Rams led by as many as 15 points late in the
first half, only to see Morgan State outscore VCU, 32-18 in the
second period.
MSU led by four points in the first overtime
period, but were held scoreless for a three-minute stretch as VCU
rallied behind a pair of jumpers by sophomore Jennifer Lane
(Wichita, Kan.) and Moss' critical trey.
The Rams return to the court on Wednesday, Dec.
2 when they head to Greenville, N.C. to meet East Carolina at 7
p.m.
