MATT FREIBAUM ELEVATED TO ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH

RICHMOND, VA. – VCU women's soccer Head Coach Lauryn Hutchinson announced the elevation of Matt Freibaum to associate head coach in May 2026.

A season ago, Freibaum helped lead VCU to an Atlantic 10 quarterfinal appearance, seeing increases in nearly every offensive statistical category and improving both overall and Atlantic 10 win totals from the previous season under the first-year staff.

VCU notably more than doubled its assist totals from 11 to 24 on the season, with 23 goals to the Rams' 15 in 2024. Additionally, between the posts, the Rams made 89 saves, including seven by field players on top of Mia Pongratz's eighth-most single-season saves in program history (82).

Four Rams recorded three goals, including freshman phenom Isabelle Franklin, who tallied a team-leading six assists in her freshman campaign. Also under Freibaum's leadership, eight Rams scored their first collegiate goals, five of whom posted multi-goal campaigns.

With the second-year staff's announcing their recruiting class earlier in the spring, the Rams have added six players to their roster for the upcoming 2026 season, including five Division I transfers and a member of Costa Rica's Women's National Team.

Freibaum and the coaching staff look ahead to the future to build on their strong first VCU campaign. More information on the 2026 women's soccer schedule will be available soon.
