RAMS WALK OFF SAINT JOSEPH's TO CLINCH ATLANTIC 10 SERIES

Score: VCU 4, Saint Joseph's 3
Location: Richmond, Va. (The Diamond)
Records: VCU 7-19 (2-6 A-10), Saint Joseph's 9-16 (3-5 A-10)

THE SHORT STORY: VCU baseball built on back-to-back victories to take its third consecutive win of the week, walking off Saint Joseph's with a sacrifice fly courtesy of freshman catcher Jacob Lee.

LEADING OFF:
  • Adrian Jimenez continued his hot streak, belting a pair of doubles, for his sixth consecutive game with a hit
  • Jimenez has gone 11-21 with six runs in his first five Atlantic 10 contests, racking up at least two hits in every conference game he's played
  • Cooper Campbell was the Rams' pitcher of record, earning his first collegiate win
  • Casey Kleinman picked up another two-hit game, also driving in a run and scoring the walk-off run
  • Max Moore made his first Saturday start, going 3.0 innings and allowing one run and four hits
  • Out of the bullpen, Jack Hoeymans, Elijah Coston and Campbell allowed just two hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out five Hawks
  • Will Henson made not one but two SportsCenter Top 10-worthy plays in left field
  • In addition to driving in the winning run, Lee tossed out two runners from behind the dish
  • For the 18th time in 26 games, VCU scored its first run in the first two innings
  • The Rams were outhit 6-5, but stranded eight Hawks on base
  • Colton Book started for Saint Joseph's, allowing three hits and two runs over his 6.0 innings of work, striking out nine Rams
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With the lone baserunner in the inning erased by a throw-out from Lee behind the plate, Moore faced the minimum in the opening frame of his first weekend start
  • Jimenez was the first Ram on base after his first double of the day and aided by a Hawks passed ball, came around to score on an RBI single from Henson
  • Henson again saved an extra-base hit in the eighth inning, laying out for his second phenomenal catch of the day and keeping the 2-2 score intact
  • Saint Joseph's added one run in the top of the ninth to break the stalemate with an RBI single, but VCU's day wasn't over
  • Sean Swenson drew a full-count walk and Kleinman lined a single to left-center field, setting up Nate Kirkpatrick for the sacrifice bunt that put both the tying and winning runs in scoring position
  • Another bunt, this time from Seth Werchan, drew the play to the plate, but it wasn't nearly in time for Bobby Lane to score the tying run
  • Lee stepped up to the plate, still looking for his moment of offense on the day, and got under the 0-1 pitch to walk off the series-clinching victory on a sacrifice fly
