Meet: NCAA Indoor Championships
Location: Virginia Beach, Va. (Virginia Beach Sports Center)
Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir threw a new school record to become the national runner up in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 14. Hallgrimsdottir's new personal best mark of 23.19 meters came on her sixth and final attempt to catapult her into second place and take home first-team All-American honors.
This performance continues to solidify Hallgrimsdottir's place in VCU history, as her 23.19-meter throw broke her own school record of 22.44 meters, which she set at the 2024 Doc Hale Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.
The senior from Iceland had already set a new school record earlier in the afternoon with a throw of 22.83 meters on her second attempt, but her final push secured her second-place finish and career-best throw.
In 2024, Hallgrimsdottir earned first-team All-American honors after finishing fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a throw of 22.07 meters. She now owns three All-American honors between her indoor and outdoor career, as she also earned second-team All-American honors for her performance in the hammer throw in the 2023 outdoor season.
Her national runner up placement ties the best finish for any Rams athlete or team since the Men's Tennis program earned second in the 2000 National Championship.
