MARTIN ANNOUNCES RETURN OF SEKYERE AS ASSISTANT COACH

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Soccer Head Coach Lindsey Martin has announced the hiring of Owusu Sekyere as assistant coach.

Sekyere returns to VCU from George Mason where he served as an assistant coach this past season. Sekyere previously served as a volunteer assistant coach under Martin for two seasons from 2021-2022. Sekyere is an alum of VCU and was a four-year standout, playing in 63 games for the Rams while scoring 12 goals and assisting 15 times as a midfielder.

"I am very happy for the program to be able to welcome back Owusu to our staff," said Martin. "He was such an integral part of our 2021 and 2022 success and we are thrilled to have him join us again leading into our fall season. He has all the qualities that we look for when seeking is strong assistant coach as he possesses a strong knowledge of the game combined with an ability to connect with student-athletes."

In his previous stint with the Rams, VCU won the program's first Atlantic 10 regular season championship in Sekyere's first season on staff and tied a school record with nine straight wins and a 13-4-0 record. In his second season, VCU earned a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament with an 8-3-8 record.

After graduating from VCU, Sekyere signed with the USL PRO side Charlotte Eagles for the 2014 season, making 28 appearances. Following his season in Charlotte, Sekyere signed with the USL Championship side Richmond Kickers, where he played from 2015 to 2018 and made 96 appearances.
