THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer clinched its fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship berth with its most goals scored this season in a commanding 4-1 victory over Davidson in the regular season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rams opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Nguyen recovered a clearing attempt by Davidson and looped it into the low corner for a 1-0 advantage
  • Just three minutes later, Marwah doubled VCU's lead on the follow-through from Jensyn Lins' header to put the Rams ahead 2-0
  • In the 36th minute, on a feed from McCloskey, Franklin launched an absolute rocket over the head of Davidson goalkeeper Grace Stair from about 25 yards out for a 3-0 lead that held into the half
  • McCloskey added the final strike for the Rams from the arc in the 66th minute
  • In the 75th minute, Davidson spoiled the Rams' clean sheet with their lone goal, but VCU held onto its three-goal lead for the victory
  • VCU clinched its bid to the Atlantic 10 Championship with the win, 4-1

VCU will advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship to face No. 4 Rhode Island in the quarterfinal round on Friday, October 31. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I.
