The Short Story: Freshman sprinter
Ciara Joyner-Plata set personal records in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash to headline the group of Ram women at the Dalton Ebanks Memorial Invitational, hosted by Atlantic 10 rival George Mason.
SPRINTS
- Joyner-Plata's 100m time of 12.27 was good for fifth overall and puts her in a tie for ninth in the Atlantic 10 this season. She followed that up with a 25.63 in the 200m
HURDLES
- Sophomore Sophie Heinold had a solid double in the hurdle events, finishing eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal record of 15.56. Later in the afternoon, Heinold placed 10th I the 400-meter hurdles, completing the lap in 1:05.61
DISTANCE
- Sophomore Lauren Tunnell ran a personal best of 2:12.61 in the 800-meter run, finishing sixth overall. Tunnell's time is the seventh-best in the Atlantic 10 this season as well as the ninth-best in VCU history
- Also in the 800m, freshman Naomi Clarke finished 14th with a time of 2:16.01, and freshman Jayanna Carroll ran a PR of 2:18.48
- Freshman Ava Miller excelled in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in sixth place in a personal record time of 11:26.85. Additionally, Miller's performance is the fifth-best in VCU history for the unique event

SPRINTS
- The trio of junior Karah Moore, freshman Jaylin Pate, and freshman Jordyn Evans all competed in the 200m, with Moore leading the Rams with a 15th-place finish and a time of 25.28
HURDLES
- Symone Foster stood out in the 100mh, coming in second place and breaking the tape in a time of 13.93
UP NEXT
The VCU track & field team will once again split up between two meets next weekend. Some Ram athletes will travel to the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., on Friday-Saturday, April 14-15, while others will stay in-state for the JMU invitational in Harrisonburg, Va., on Saturday, April 15.
