NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Sophomore thrower Gudrun Hallgrímsdóttir was recognized as Atlantic 10 Women's Field Performer of the Week for the week of March 13-19, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Hailing from Hvanneyri, Iceland, Hallgrímsdóttir cruised to victory in the hammer throw at the UCF Black & Gold Invitational in Orlando, Fla., on March 17-18. With a best throw of 60.02 meters (196'-11"), Hallgrímsdóttir was the only athlete to get a mark over 60 meters in the event at UCF. Additionally, Hallgrímsdóttir is currently ranked third in the NCAA East and ninth nationally in the hammer throw through this past weekend's meets.
The VCU women's track & field team competes again this Saturday, March 25 when they travel to the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., hosted by William & Mary. The first event will begin at 10 a.m.
