The Short Story: VCU, representing the United States, battled back-and-forth with France and got within 56-44 with 3:55 left before France pulled away for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:

• This was the opening game of the inagural GLOBL JAM featuring some of the top international U-23 teams in France, Canada and Belgium
• Mary-Anna Asare scored a team-high 17 points in playing with her collegiate teammates for the first time. Asare went 3-of-4 of 3-point range and added four rebounds
• Chloe Bloom scored nine points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds  
• Samantha Robinson scored six points and had five rebounds
• Taya Robinson had a team-high eight assists along with four steals and four points
• The United States shot just 24 percent from the floor while France shot 42 percen

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• France got out to an 8-2 lead early with 6:07 remaining in the game and led 26-9 with 5:38 left in the second quarter
• The U.S. then went on a 9-0 run, capped by an Asare 3-pointer, to cut France's lead to 26-18 with 3:50 left before halftime. France would lead 34-22 at the half
• The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair and the U.S. trailed 47-35 heading into the fourth
• The U.S. went on a run midway through the fourth quarter, with Asare's layup getting the U.S. with 51-44
• The United States was unable to close the deficit in the final minutes as France held on for the win
