ALMEIDA AND ROSSI HEADLINE COLLECTION OF A-10 AWARDS

RICHMOND, Va. ­– Headlined by Coach of the Year honors for Anthony Rossi and Most Outstanding Rookie Joaquim Almeida, VCU Men's Tennis claimed a collection of conference awards as announced by the Atlantic 10 office on Tuesday.
 
This marks the third career Coach of the Year recognition for Rossi who guided the team to a 22-7 record, a season-high national ITA Ranking of 27 and a fifth straight conference title.
 
Almeida earned the conference's top rookie award after a tremendous freshman campaign that included an 18-12 singles record, and a 20-17 doubles record.
 
The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native also earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Honors a total of four times over the 2021-22 season.
 
The Rams placed six members on the A-10 First Team, graduate student Inigo Torre Martin, senior Charles Bertimon, senior Rayane Stable, junior Maxence Bertimon, sophomore Matisse Bobichon and Almeida each earned recognition.
 
Torre Martin tallied a 32-13 singles record and a 22-14 doubles mark across both tournament and dual match play. The graduate student entered the ITA National Singles Rankings for the first time this season, reaching as high as no. 98. On March 26, Torre Martin clinched the Rams 4-2 victory over No. 19 Arizona with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over No .71 ranked freshman Colton Smith.
 
In addition to his first-team honors, Torre Martin earned All-Academic recognition. He was previously named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2018 and an All-Academic team selection in 2019 and 2021.
 
Charles earns first team honors after a 13-8 singles campaign and a 16-8 doubles mark in dual match play. The Champagne Sur Seine, France native collected Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors on January 25 and March 15. Charles played the majority of the season from the No. 1 position for the Rams collecting an 11-8 record from the top spot in the lineup. The senior earned his first career ranking in both the ITA Singles and Doubles polls, reaching as high as No. 90 and No. 30 respectively over the course of the season.
 
Stable sees himself on the conference's top team for the third-consecutive season. The 2019 A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer claimed a 30-15 overall record and earned an impressive 18-11 doubles mark with partner Torre Martin.
 
Maxence earned all-conference recognition in his first full season with the Black and Gold. In addition to accumulating 19 singles victories the junior also totaled a team high 14 dual match doubles wins with partner and brother Charles Bertimon. Maxence received Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors twice during the 2021-22 campaign claiming the award on February 22 and March 29.
 
Bobichon receives a first-team selection in his first year with the Rams, after transferring from Oklahoma State University this past summer. The sophomore led the team with 21 dual match singles wins including a 15-match win streak. The Lyon, France native moved steadily up the lineup over the course of the season playing matches in four different positions over the course of the year. Bobichon claimed Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors on March 1 after impressive victories over opponents from Princeton and Arizona.
 
The Rams retain a majority of their roster as they look to the 2022-23 season. Captain Inigo Torre Martin is the only player who will not return to the lineup.
