The Rams play a challenging and competitive schedule in 2022 – Old Dominion is one of three opponents this year that were a national seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Overall, VCU plays 14 games against teams from last spring's championship field.
Â
VCU is led by Preseason All-American infielderÂ
Tyler Locklear, who was named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list earlier this spring. Through six games this season, the Abingdon, Md., native is hitting .318 with three home runs and 10 RBIs, while posting a staggering .727 slugging percentage.
Â
Redshirt junior outfielderÂ
Logan Amiss has found success in the leadoff spot, batting a team-best .391, scoring a team-high nine runs, and hitting five doubles, the second most in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Â
On the rubber, two VCU freshmen have impressed early.Â
Chase Hungate has thrown 6.0 innings without allowing an earned run, and notched his first career win in a 13-3 victory over Lafayette on Feb. 19. Meanwhile,Â
Cade Dressler has thrown 2.0 scoreless innings across two appearances, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Â
The Monarchs, the reigning Conference-USA champions, went 44-16 in 2021 and are off to a 5-1 start this season after sweeping Iona and taking two of three from Binghamton, all in Norfolk, Va. Tuesday's contest will be ODU's first road game.
Â
VCU returns to The Diamond for three games this weekend as one of the hosts of the Central Virginia Classic. The Rams host Lafayette on Friday at 3 p.m., Princeton on Saturday at 2 p.m., and Rutgers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tuesday's game will be streamed on
