THE STARTING LINE
 
  • VCU won its third Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday with a final score of 149
  • Lauryn Taylor won gold in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters earning 20 points in total
  • Courtney Higgins held on to her lead in the heptathlon and won gold with her personal best point total of 5023
  • Makayla McGowan recorded a personal best mark in the shot put with a distance of 15.2m, while Eryn Byrd also hit a personal best at 14.64m. The two finished first and second respectively, earning 18 points for VCU
  • Jocelyn Midkiff picked up another four points for the Rams in the shot put with her fifth place finish
  • Midkiff won gold in the discus with her personal best of 48.08m while McGowan won silver and Byrd placed fourth to total 23 points out of the event for VCU 
  • Syvanna Metcalfe placed sixth in the 100 hurdles, and fourth in the 400 hurdles to earn eight points
  • Jessica Tucker picked up five points with her personal best time of 12.12 in the 100 meters
  • In the 400 hurdles Syvanna Metcalfe and Yasmine Silmon placed fourth (1:00.6) and fifth (1:01.22) respectively as each hit personal bests and picked up a combined nine points for the Rams
  • Simone Pierre hit a personal best time in the 200 meters clocking in at 24.42 and picking up five points for the Rams. Rorie Spencer also earned a point in the event
  • Aliyah Newman placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.30m to earn the Rams 8 points while Amari Jackson finished in eighth place to pitch in another point
  • Dasia Mayo pulled a second place finish with her personal best mark of 1.66m in the high jump while Alacia Myles and Khaila Lyons finished fifth and sixth respectively with personal bests of 1.61m. VCU totaled 15 points from the event
  • Lauren Graves finished fourth in the pole vault with her personal best mark of 3.56m which was good for five points
