RICHMOND, Va. – VCU sophomore guard
Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland (Wilmington, Del.) will declare for the 2021 NBA Draft, he announced Saturday on social media.Â
Â
The Wilmington, Del. was named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year after he led the league in scoring at 19.5 points per game. Hyland also supplied 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. Among other talents, the 6-foot-3 combo guard has shown 3-point shooting ability well beyond NBA range. He shot .371 (69-of-186) from beyond the arc this season and led the A-10 in 3-pointers per game (2.9). In two seasons with VCU, Hyland connected on 132 triples at a .399 clip. His effort helped VCU to a 19-7 record in 2020-21, as well as an NCAA Tournament berth.
Â
Hyland appeared in 55 games with the Rams in two seasons and averaged 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists, while shooting .441 from the field and .827 from the free throw line.
Â
Hyland is the first sophomore in program history to declare for the NBA Draft. Five Rams have appeared in the NBA since 2009: Eric Maynor, Larry Sanders, Troy Daniels, Briante Weber and Treveon Graham. Maynor (2009) and Sanders (2010) were first round selections by the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks, respectively. Sanders, who departed at the conclusion of his junior year in 2009-10, is the only prior VCU underclassman to declare for the NBA Draft. In all, 10 former Rams have played in the NBA.
