RICHMOND, Va. – VCU and Old Dominion are set to meet on the basketball court for the first time in five years. The Rams and Monarchs will face-off in an exhibition contest at Chartway Arena in Norfolk on Oct. 17, revisiting a rivalry that dates back to the early days of both schools.
 
Old Dominion is scheduled to return an exhibition game at the Stuart C. Siegel Center prior to the 2027-28 season, as part of the agreement.
 
VCU and Old Dominion, in their current forms, previously met 97 times from 1969-2021, with the Rams owning a 53-44 edge. But the roots of the series began much earlier, when VCU (then RPI) and Old Dominion were both still part of the College of William & Mary. The two schools were conference foes in the Sun Belt from 1982-91 and in the Colonial Athletic Association from 1995-2012. On three occasions, they met in their league's championship game.
 
The Rams and Monarchs last met on Dec. 11, 2021, a 75-66 VCU win in Norfolk.
