THE SHORT STORY: After trailing 1-0 early, VCU tied the game in the 17
th minute on a
Litiana Field goal before the teams deadlocked during regulation.
Svea Sturm scored the go-ahead shootout goal followed by
Sasha Elliott making the game-winning save.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UMass took an early 1-0 lead in the 5th minute as Keij scored off the rebound on a penalty corner
- VCU nearly tied the game in the 14th minute but Lonica McKinney's effort went wide of the post
- The Rams equalized at 1-1 in thee 17th minute as Field scored off a penalty corner on the wing on an assist from Wetzel
- The two teams remained deadlocked for the remainder of regulation, with VCU forcing UMass into two saves in the third quarter and neither team recording a shot in the fourth quarter
- UMass outshot VCU 4-1 in both overtime periods but only putting two shots on frame. Camila Rosenbrock had her effort saved in the second overtime.
- VCU won the shootout 3-2 with Svea Sturm scoring the go-ahead goal and Elliott trapping Hannah de Gast's shot attempt as time expired
