THE SHORT STORY:Â VCU got out to an early 2-0 lead before the Demon Deacons tied the game 2-2 late in the third quarter.
Janne Wetzel scored the game-winner, her second goal of the day, in the 49
th minute off a penalty corner and the Rams held on for the win.

- Wetzel's two goals were her eighth and ninth of the season. She also added an assist and had four shot attempts
- Maite Sturm and Svea Sturm each recorded two assists

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU held Wake Forest without a shot attempt in the first quarter, outshooting them 4-0, and opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Field received a pass from Wetzel following a stick stop on a penalty corner and her low shot beat the goalkeeper
- The Rams doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute as Wetzel converted a penalty corner on assists from Maite and Svea Sturm
- Wake Forest answered just before halftime as Friedman dribbled down the end line and pushed a shot past Elliott at the near post to make it 2-1
- The Demon Deacons tied the game at 2-2 in the 44th minute as Dickman turned, flicked the ball past a VCU defender and beat the goalkeeper with a chip shot
- Wetzel gave VCU the deciding goal in the 49th minute on another penalty corner, this time finding the upper corner
- Elliott made three saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the win
