The Short Story: VCU turned in a strong performance after a 10 month break from competition. The Rams recorded 5 total top-three finishes as well as two personal records to start the 2021 Indoor season at the Keydet Invitational on Saturday
 
Sprints/Hurdles: 

• Sophomore Lauryn Freeman cruised to a first place finish in the 60 Meter Hurdles recording a time of 8.87
• Senior Courtney Higgins raced to a seventh place finish in the 400 Meters
• In her Rams debut, freshmen Simone Pierre earned a fifth place finish in the 60 Meters

 
Throws:

• Sophomore thrower Makayla McGowan topped the Shot Put competition
• McGowan also took home third place in the Weight Throw
• Freshman Eryn Byrd earned a fourth place finish in the Shot Put with a 12.55m toss in her first outing for VCU

 
Distance: 

• Junior Margot Brown brought home a second place finish in the 1 Mile while setting a personal record of 5:30.37
• In the 3000 Meters, sophomore Kasandra Aulenbach recorded a personal record of 10:37.30

 
Jumps: 

• Freshman Alacia Myles burst on to the scene with a third place performance in the High Jump
• In the High Jump, sophomore jumpers Khaila Lyons and Dasia Mayo placed sixth and eighth respectively
• Higgins leaped her way into fifth place in the Long Jump
• Senior Aliyah Newman earned a sixth place finish in the Long Jump

 
Relays: 

• The Rams 4 x 400m relay team made up of Pierre, freshman Nia McMillan, freshman Karah Moore, and Freeman bolted to a first place finish

What's Next: The Rams travel back to Lexington, VA to participate in the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday, January 23
