A Note from Coach Rhoades:
Dear Alumni,
I have the honor and privilege of being the head coach at VCU! You have been a part of the years of a great basketball tradition that has evolved at VCU. We have been fortunate to accumulate great successes and experience tremendous growth and visibility at college basketball's highest level.
There have been so many great teams and players through the years of VCU Basketball. We all have been a part of a program and University with which we should have a great deal of pride.Â
We have decided to enhance the VCU Basketball FAMILY by establishing the VCU Basketball Alumni Association. We invite you to join and be part of this VCU Basketball fraternity.
This is an organization to engage and experience VCU Basketball together through the years ahead. Members can look forward to association events, quarterly newsletters, access to the Alumni Association and other opportunities to engage with former teammates and current players.
To learn more about the alumni association or to become a member please use the links provided for more information. Thanks for your support of VCU Basketball through the years and we look forward to having you be a part of our FAMILY! Go Rams!

VCU Basketball Alumni Spotlight- Tim Harris

Tim Harris played basketball at VCU from 1977-1980. His 1978 team was invited to the National Invitational Tournament, VCU's first postseason tournament in school history. They were coached by Dana Kirk and led by standouts Gerald Henderson and Ren Watson. The 1980 team won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and was the first team in school history to play in the NCAA Tournament. They were coached by JD Barnett and featured Ed Sherrod, Monty Knight and Danny Kottak. Tim played various roles on the team but was known for his intense defense, ball handling and providing a spark when needed. To Tim, these were some of the most exciting and memorable years of his life that have continued to impact him throughout his life.
Tim wanted to channel the values that he learned at VCU through sport into a successful career. These valus and qualities included persistence, discipline and excelling in competitive environments. Tim received his degree in marketing from VCU's School of Business where it became clear to him that he wanted to work in sales and marketing. When interviewing with various companies, he believed the distinct advantage he had versus other candidates was the value of hard work and dedication that had come from playing at VCU.
"My VCU athletic and college experience contributed significantly to my success in business. I worked for Lanier Business Products for 11 years and progressed into many roles. I spent the last 25 years in Medical Sales, most recently serving as the US Vice President of Sales and Service for a major medical diagnostic company. It has been a rewarding journey and my foundation at VCU paved the way," said Harris.
Tim has been married to his wife Pam, for 37 years. He has a son Chris, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the U.S. Naval Academy. Chris was a three-time All-Conference player in basketball. He has a daughter, Courtney. Courtney, swam collegiately and was the team captain her senior year at East Carolina University.
"I will be forever grateful for my VCU experience," Harris said. "I made lifelong friends, received an excellent education, adapted the winning culture into my life, and will always be a part of the VCU Family!"
