"Giving Day is the one day where a gift can make an impact for an entire year," head coach Tim Doyle said. "Last year, your Giving Day generosity allowed us to bring our team back in July, a month before most teams start their pre seasons. Not only is this a critical competitive advantage, it reflects to our athletes the importance of a winning, student-athlete-focused way of life at VCU."
Doyle values building a team-first environment in which volleyball student-athletes lend their talents to foster the program's success. He led the team to a No. 2 finish in the 2024 conference tournament and mentored three All-A10 honorees. Jasmine Knight and Julia Rienks earned first-team nods while Lara Del Core earned second-team and All-Rookie recognition.
"As a student-athlete at VCU, donor support means everything to me," rising senior Kalina Pylinska said. "It allows me to focus on excelling both academically and athletically by providing resources like my scholarship, the fuel station for proper nutrition, and high-quality travel accommodations. Thanks to this, I can compete at my best while representing VCU. I'm incredibly grateful for the generosity that makes this possible."
Summer workouts are a critical training window for volleyball student-athletes. An early start for training in Richmond gives them an advantage over rivals as they build team chemistry and level up their skills, none of which could happen without donor support. Gifts on Giving Day support housing and training resources for the Rams with opportunities to workout and focus on team building prior to preseason, giving them a competitive advantage coming into the start of the year. Providing financial support for VCU Volleyball student-athletes during the summer and throughout the season aligns with the program's family-focused atmosphere.
"I am thankful for the donor support because of their support I can go home for Christmas," Rienks said. "Because of the donor support we can have the fuel station which always makes sure we are good to go before or after practice."
VCU Volleyball values advanced technology in the form of greater rehab equipment, which helps the student-athletes keep their bodies in top-shape for every game. These tools are essential to peak performance for every Ram, no matter her position on the court. Giving Day funds enhance these resources for the team year after year.
In a new era of college athletics, VCU Volleyball needs to renovate its locker room to make the spaces more advantageous for every student-athlete. The team looks forward to adding features that will contribute to long-term success, such as the purchases of new equipment and storage spaces that empower each student-athlete to reach her full potential on and off the court. Giving Day contributions help support this project.
