- VCU started the game on a 6-0 run in the first 2:21 but the Highlanders outscored VCU 10-4 to tie the game at 10-10 after the first quarter.
- Radford took a 12-10 lead with 8:52 left in the second quarter before 6-0 run allowed VCU to retake the lead at 16-12.
- The Highlanders scored outscored the Rams 7-2 to end the first half and held a slight 19-18 lead at the break.
- Radford led 25-24 with 5:23 left in the third quarter but a basket by Kysenia Malashka started an 11-0 run that gave VCU a 35-25 lead, the largest lead of the game by either team. The teams each scored one more field goal and the third quarter finished with VCU leading 37-29.
- Radford's 13-0 run gave the Highlanders a 42-37 advantage with 6:33 remaining.
