Location: Richmond, Va. (Thalhimer Tennis Center)
Records: VCU 0-2, Wake Forest 6-0
The short story: Freshman Sofia Segerfors' gutty performance on the No. 5 singles court was notable for VCU Saturday, but the Rams fell 7-0 at the hands of Wake Forest at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
FIRST SERVE
- Segerfors, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, was locked in a knock-down, drag-out battle with Wake's Samantha Asch. After they split the first two sets, Asch earned a hard-fought victory with a 10-8 win in the third frame.
- The Rams dropped another close one on the No. 1 court, when the Demon Deacon's Kimmy Guerin nipped Olga Barshcheuskaya, 7-5, 7-5. Barshcheuskaya was coming off an impressive win over 35th ranked Martina Frantova of N.C. State last week.
- On the doubles courts, Barshcheuskaya and Darya Berezhnaya picked up a victory for VCU over Anna Ulyashchenko and Guerin, 7-6 (7-4).
