OPENING VOLLEY
- Senior outside hitter Kalah Jones blasted five of her career-high 23 kills in the tiebreaker as VCU held off William & Mary for a 3-2 victory in the Rams' home-opener.
- Jones, who hit .419 in the match, provided three of the Rams' final four points on the night, including the final two on powerful right-handed swings. She added seven digs.
- Sophomore Jessica Young added 17 kills and hit .406 for VCU, while classmate Jane Fedderson kicked in 11 kills and hit .381.
- Freshman setter Indigo Thompson directed the VCU offense to the tune of 59 assists and a .248 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, sophomore libero Rebekah Strange dug 19 balls, while Thompson added 10.
- Michelle Heath led the Tribe with 13 kills.
KEY MOMENTS
- VCU responded to a close loss in the fourth set by charging out to an 8-4 advantage in the tiebreaker as Jones and Young combined for four kills. The Tribe would pull within 10-9, but get no closer. A block by Feddersen and freshman Sahbria McLetchie, followed by a Jones kill, kept William & Mary at bay.
- Down 1-0, the Rams hit .222 in the second set and .394 in the third to assume a 2-1 lead in the match.

- The Rams hit .357 (8-3-14) in the fifth set.
- VCU has won five straight home openers, including the last three under Coach Jody Rogers.
