Rams have strong showing at UVA Challenge,CNU Invite

The Short Story: The VCU Men's Track & Field team had a solid final showing before the Atlantic 10 Championship as twelve Rams recorded top-10 finishes. 

Highlights (Virginia Challenge):

  • Among a deep field in the 200-meter, George Moore clocked a 22.10 and a 48.05 in the 400-meter race. Tehquin Warrick finished close behind Moore in the 400-meter race with a time of 49.59.
  • Mohamed Adam clocked a season-best 3:58 in the 1500-meter race.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team (Warrick, Nicholas Buckingham, Kahlil Shepard and Moore) recorded a top-10 finish, finishing in a time of 3:14.43.
  • Brandon Ruffin finished second in the shot put with a mark of 17.66m and tied for 11th in the discus. Classmate Ryan Coles registered a throw of 15.60m in the shot put with a mark of 52.44m in the discus to finish third. In the hammer throw, Ruffin and Coles recorded marks of 52.02m and 51.76m, respectively. 
  • In the triple jump, Racheed Davis registered a top-10 finish at 13.98m.

Highlights (New Captains Classic):

  • Kareem Payne rounded out the top-five in the 100-meter dash clocking a time of 11.06m. He also finished in the top-10 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.07m.
  • In the 800-meter race, Calvin Wood placed fourth with a time of 1:59.75, classmate Austin Lushinski finished third in the 1500-meter race crossing at 4:10.83.
  • Ben Melton took second in the discus with a throw of 44.10m, while Justin Howlett placed eighth with a mark of 39.02m. Melton and Howlett recorded marks of 43.75m and 43.19m, respectively in the hammer throw event. 

Looking Ahead: The Rams will take the week off before competing at the Atlantic 10 Championship next weekend (May 2-3) in Fairfax, Va.
