Rams Trample Tribe 73-47

The Short Story: For the third time in four games, VCU women's hoops held an opponent to under 50 points as the Rams defeated the William & Mary Tribe 73-47 to improve to 10-2 on Monday.

OPENING TIP
  • Adaeze Alaeze, Curteeona Brelove and Isis Thorpe scored 11 points. Overall, nine Rams chipped in at least four apiece.
  • Brelove and Alaeze scored 11 each, grabbing eight and seven boards respectively. Thorpe was three-of-six from downtown to move to within 43 of the progam's all-time three-point record.
  • Chadarryl Clay and Keira Robinson had solid all-around performances for the Rams. Clay scored nine points, adding four assists and three steals. Robinson scored six, grabbed seven boards, and dished out two assists.
  • Ashley Pegram made four-of-eight shots, finishing with eight points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • William & Mary scored the first basket of the game, but the Rams responded to take an early 6-3 advantage on a layup from Jessica Ogunnorin. The forward registered four points, six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
  • VCU ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run and carried it into the second, adding seven more to jump out to an early 23-8 lead.
  • The Tribe fought back, pulling within six, but the Black & Gold kept them at bay and headed to the locker-room with a 12-point advantage at the half.
  • William & Mary continued to try to claw their way back into the game, but back-to-back threes from Robinson, followed by a Pegram jumper made it a 16-point game.
  • The two teams traded shots the rest of the way, with VCU holding on for another 20+ point victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Rams have forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season and lead the A10 in turnovers forced, turnover margin, and steals.
  • VCU came up with seven steals, forcing 18 Tribe turnovers. The Black & Gold scored 17 of their points off of William & Mary mistakes.
  • VCU outscored W&M in the paint 34-18 and the bench chipped in 33.
  • The Rams limited the Tribe to just 14.3 percent (one-of-seven) from beyond the arch in the first half. Overall, William & Mary was held to just 30.2 percent (16-of-58) in the contest.
  • The Rams advance to 56-22 all-time against the Tribe.

  • VCU resumes the season after the holidays on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at North Carolina A&T. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
