The Basics

  • The Short Story: Playing their sixth game in 13 days, the VCU women's basketball battled the William & Mary Tribe, but eventually dropped a 56-48 road decision.  The game featured six ties, four times in the second half. Sophomore Isis Thorpe led the Rams offensively with 12 points, while senior Melanie Royster chipped in a career-high six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
How It Happened
  • VCU came out of the gates strong, holding the Tribe without a point for the first 3:32. A 3-pointer from Ashlee Mitchell with 16:16 to play in the first half capped off a 7-2 start to the game for the Rams.
  • The Tribe would answer and eventually tie the game at 10-10 halfway through the stanza.
  • The two teams would trade buckets over the next six minutes before William & Mary scored the final seven points of the half to take a 29-22 lead into the break.
  • Much like the first half, VCU came out firing, scoring the first seven points of the second half and tying the game at 29 on a layup by Royster with 17:39 remaining.
  • The teams would trade buckets over the next seven minutes with a layup from Camille Calhoun with 10:34 to play tying the game at 38.
  • William & Mary would then answer with an 13-2 run over the next eight minutes that would put the game away and seal the 56-48 victory.

  • The Rams were playing their sixth game in 13 days
  • VCU has traveled over 1,600 miles in that span
  • Royster tied a career-high with six points. She also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Thorpe scored in double-figures for the second time in the past three games.
