MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Fourteen kills from sophomore
Kristin
Boyd (Wilmington, N.C.) weren't enough to prevent
Virginia Commonwealth University from dropping a 3-0 decision to
Northeastern Friday night at Hanover High School.
The Rams (2-14, 0-1 CAA), playing in their Colonial Athletic
Association opener, struggled to get on track most of the evening,
and failed to hit better than .200 in any of the three sets. VCU
finished with an .078 hitting percentage, while the Huskies (10-5,
1-0 CAA) hit .188 for the match.
Senior Kelsie
Clegg (Boise, Idaho) provided a fine defensive effort
with 10 total blocks, including two solos, for the Rams. Senior
Mariel Frey
(Lititz, Pa.) added six kills and sophomore Marisa
Low (Carlsbad, Calif.) registered 10 digs.
Two-time All-CAA selection Britney Brown led Northeastern with 14
kills, 15 assists and three blocks, while libero Jessica LaScola
frustrated VCU with 19 digs for the Huskies.
VCU outblocked Northeastern, 12-9, but couldn't overcome 24
hitting errors.
The Rams return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 25, when they host
CAA-rival Hofstra at Cosby High School in Midlothian, Va. at 7
p.m.
