VCU went up 15-7 on a jumper by Moss at the 13:38 mark in the first half before Fansler scored seven-straight points for Winthrop to pull the Eagles within one.  Hurt answered for the Rams on the following possession and scored six of the next eight points to put VCU back on top 23-14 with 7:46 to go before the break.

Winthrop cut the VCU lead to five with 6:30 remaining but it was as close as the Eagles would get the remainder of the half.  The Rams used a 14-2 run to go up 37-20 with 2:36 showing and took a 41-26 lead into the locker room.

The Rams shot a season-best 87.5% (21-of-24) from the charity stripe, including a perfect 10-for-10 effort from Moss.
