THE SHORT STORY
VCU women's soccer dropped its Atlantic 10 opener on the road to Saint Louis, who is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll, on Saturday, 7-1.
 
PITCH-SIDE
  • Isabelle Franklin scored her second goal in as many games and tallied points for the third consecutive contest
  • VCU was outshot 27-7 and Saint Louis' 12 shots on goal led VCU's three
  • Cameryn Nunn and Mia Pongratz off the bench tied for five saves
  • Saint Louis' Pepper Escher made two saves on three attempts between the posts
  • Lucie Schwartz, Caroline Chier and Addison Stanciak scored their first career braces for SLU
  • All four yellow cards in the match were issued to the Rams
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Schwartz started the scoring in the A10 opener in the 15th minute, poking in the first of the contest from the top of the box using a deflection off a Rams defender
  • Franklin found the back of the net from a rebound off a saved attempt from Monique McEnhimer to even the contest at 1-1
  • The Billikens scored in the 29th and 38th minutes to enter the half with a two-goal lead, 3-1
  • SLU added four goals in the second half to cement the dominant A10 opening win
  • Pongratz saved all three attempts in the final 25 minutes to hold the score at its 7-1 final
