RICHMOND, Va. – VCU's Women's Tennis program proved to be champions on and off the court again this year. The Rams, who captured an Atlantic 10 Conference title in April, were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Monday for their dominance in the classroom.
 
The Black and Gold, under the direction of second-year Head Coach Rifa Kahfiani, were named an ITA All-Academic Team, an honor bestowed to programs with a combined GPA of 3.2 or better, for the ninth straight year. Additionally, seven Rams received ITA individual awards.
 
Freshmen Amelie Brozova (Kurim, Czech Republic) and Viktoria Lackova (Bratislava, Slovakia), sophomores Sara Alba (Bogota, Columbia) and Sofia Thorne (Northbridge, New South Wales, Australia) as well as juniors Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando (Santo Domingo, Ecuador), Elicia Kim (Doreen, Australia) and Mariam Ibrahim (Cairo, Egypt) were each named an ITA Scholar Athlete, a distinction given to student-athletes who maintained a GPA of 3.5 or better.
