RAMS CLINCH SERIES OVER HAWKS IN SEVEN INNINGS, 19-5

VCU baseball used five multi-run frames and scored 10 runs in the seventh inning on Sunday to clinch the weekend series against Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champion Saint Joseph's, 19-5, in just seven innings. The Rams clinched an A-10 Championship berth with the victory.
 
LEADING OFF:
  • VCU tied its most runs in a game this season (19) and scored the most runs in a single inning (10) in 2026
  • Jacob Lee had five hits in the game, the most by a Ram since Brandon Eike in the 2024 NCAA Regional, while scoring and driving in four runs
  • Both Lee and Michael Petite belted their 14th home runs of the year, tying Eike for seventh-most in a season in program history
  • Petite scored five runs, the most by any Ram this season, and Teige Lethert drove in a career-best five runs
  • Five Rams had multi-hit games, with Dante DeFranco, Lethert and Nate Kirkpatrick tallying three apiece, Petite had two
  • Kirkpatrick belted three doubles in the game for a career high
  • On the mound, Dawson Newman went 4.0+ innings and fanned a career-best eight Hawks
  • Caleb Clover was the pitcher of record for the Rams, going 2-0 on the week out of the bullpen and allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly in his 2.2 innings of work
  • VCU secured its 17th conference win, matching the Rams' season total from a year ago
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU worked up a commanding 6-0 lead through four innings, scoring on base knocks from Kirkpatrick and Quinn Maher before Lee and Petite blasted two-run home runs
  • Saint Joseph's had its first scoring inning in the fifth and cut the Rams' lead to just two runs, 6-4, on a pair of two-RBI hits
  • With a swift answer in the top of the sixth, the Rams plated three runs before erupting into run-rule territory in the seventh with 10 runs
  • VCU sent 15 batters to the plate in the final inning, collecting six hits and six free passes, while six different Rams recorded RBI and four reached base safely twice in the frame
  • Clover secured the victory on the mound, allowing just one run on a sac fly before rolling a double-play ball to clinch the series in seven innings, 19-5

VCU will conclude its regular season at home with the final series at The Diamond on Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16, against Davidson as the Rams will cement seeding for the Atlantic 10 Championship. The series will be broadcast on ESPN+.
