VCU JUMPS OUT TO 15-0 LEAD, CRUISES TO WIN OVER DUQUESNE

The Short Story: VCU jumped out to a 15-0 lead and led 15-1 at halftime, the largest halftime lead in program history, as the Rams dominated wire-to-wire.

OPENING DRAW:
  • The win clinched the program's first winning season as it is in the midst of its 11th year
  • The win also tied the program record for A-10 wins in a season
  • Annika Bennett had three goals and one assist. Sam Palmer also scored three goals
  • Rachel Koeneke had two goals and one assist. Kate Unzicker recorded three assists
  • VCU outshout Duquesne 26-12 overall and 20-9 in shots on goal
  • Lakelyn Bostian tied a season-high with nine draw controls
  • Duquesne was led by Chelsea Evans who had three goals and four draw controls
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU needed just 38 seconds to open the scoring as Palmer found the back of the net
  • The Rams scored 15 unanswered goals to start the game. VCU led 9-0 at the end of the first quarter as Palmer recorded a first quarter hat trick
  • Koeneke, Chloe King and Bennett each scored two goals in the first half as the Rams built their 15-1 halftime lead
  • The Rams mixed lineups after taking a 15-0 lead and Duquesne scored four of the next five as the Rams led 16-4
  • VCU's lead was never threatened as they cruised to the win
