RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Women's Tennis sophomore
Sofia Jane Thorne was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Tuesday following a dominant weekend at the top of the lineup against Duquesne and Saint Joseph's.
Thorne delivered strong performances in both singles and doubles, playing a key role in VCU's success across both matches. Against Duquesne, she teamed up with
Andrea Magallanes on Court 2 to secure a 6-2 doubles victory, then followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 1 to clinch the match. She carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup with Saint Joseph's, where she and Magallanes earned a 6-1 win on Court 2. In singles, Thorne once again was sharp from the start, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to complete an undefeated weekend.
Thorne has been a steady presence at the top of the lineup all season. She currently holds an 11-6 record in singles and a 12-5 mark in doubles.
This Player of the Week honor marks her second of the season, adding to an impressive list of accolades that includes a selection to the 2026 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team, 2024-25 Atlantic 10 First Team honors, and two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week selections during the 2024-25 season.
