VCU EARN'S THIRD STRAIGHT WIN, BEATS WILLIAM & MARY 20-11

The Short Story: VCU's Rachel Koeneke scored five goals and had four assists to power VCU to its third straight win by defeating William & Mary on Wednesday afternoon.

OPENING DRAW:
  • Koeneke had five goals and four assists. Her nine total points in the game are ranked just behind Sky Hyatt and Juliana George who each had 10 point games. Hyatt recorded two during her VCU Career
  • Molly O'Keefe had two goals and a career-high five assists
  • Sam Palmer scored four goals on just six shot attempts
  • Kenson Epperly had three goals, two assists and two draw controls
  • Maggie Ohle had a goal and an assist while Kate Unzicker scored twice
  • Kiley Kozack, Kaitlyn Morgan and Annika Bennett each scored once
  • VCU outshot William & Mary 28-25 overall and 25-18 in shots on goal. The Tribe led 20-13 in draw controls but had 16 turnovers to VCU's 11
  • The Tribe's Grace Walter had a team-high four goals and an assist
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU and William & Mary were tied 1-1 before Unzicker's goal was the first of four unanswered to build a 5-1 lead with 4:08 left in the first quarter
  • The Tribe cut VCU's lead to 7-5 with 5:25 left before halftime but the Rams responded with five unanswered goals spanning halftime to build a 12-5 advantage after a Palmer goal with 11:50 left in the third quarter
  • The Rams led by at least five goals for the remainder of the game as they continued to build their lead to the final 20-11 margin
