VCU FALLS TO ELON AT HOME

The Short Story: VCU led Elon 4-3 at the beginning of the second quarter but five unanswered Elon goals allowed the Phoenix to take the lead and hold off the Rams.

OPENING DRAW:
  • Rachel Koeneke had three goals and two assists on just four shot attempts
  • Kiley Kozak recorded two assists
  • Kenson Epperly and Amelia Eilbacher each scored one goal
  • Molly O'Keefe had a goal and an assist
  • Elon outshot VCU 27-20 overall and 20-11 in shots on goal. The Phoenix led 16-8 in draw controls
  • Elon was led by Ana Lee Vandiver who had three goals and three assists
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU scored three unanswered goals to start the game and take a 3-0 lead with 8:04 left in the first quarter after an Annika Bennett goal
  • Elon responded with three unsewered goals of its own to tie the game 3-3 after the end of the first quarter
  • O'Keefe scored to put the Rams up 4-3 with 12:21 left in the second quarter but Elon scored five unanswered goals and 10 of the next 12 to build a 13-6 lead with 4:40 left in the fourth
  • Elon held off VCU for the win
